Formed in 2003, King Armadillo started out as high school friends with the the vague aim of playing some cool music and also earning some petty cash. Orgininally playing mainly jazz standards, the members quickly broadened their musical horizons, and the band's repertoire shifted to funk, fusion, soul and even hip-hop and house music.

In particular, the band have been heavily influenced by musicians such as Herbie Hancock, James Brown and Weather Report. Most of their tunes are arrangements
and reinterpretations of others' music, however the band also composes some original grooves.
